Recently, the African Forum on Traditional Chinese Medicine Cooperation and Development and the 2025 Academic Conference of the Tumor Rehabilitation Professional Committee, organized by the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, was held in Morocco. Professor Yang Yufei from Xiyuan Hospital, as the President of the Integrated Tumor Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, was invited to lead his team to attend the event. Scholars and corporate representatives from the fields of health, medicine, and education from around the world, particularly from Africa, gathered to engage in extensive exchanges and in-depth discussions on topics including clinical oncology, oncology nutrition, oncology social psychology, and oncology rehabilitation.

The conference received strong support from Ambassador Li Changlin of the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Morocco. Dr. Mohamed El Ghachi , President of Université Mohammed V, attended the conference alongside Dr. Diarra, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, expressing strong interest and a strong desire for cooperation in the field of traditional Chinese medicine. Dr. Diarra had previously studied and trained at the Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Professor Yang Yufei delivered a speech titled “A clinical series study on the improvement of defecation dysfunction after radical resection of rectal cancer using traditional Chinese medicine techniques,” focusing on cancer rehabilitation in China, particularly postoperative rehabilitation for rectal cancer patients. She introduced the team's relevant clinical research, multidisciplinary cancer rehabilitation clinics, and the establishment and promotion of national cancer rehabilitation bases.

The Oncology Department of Xiyuan Hospital adopts an integrated traditional and Western medicine approach as its development direction, with clinical practice as the foundation and therapeutic efficacy as the core. It actively explores and innovates in areas such as TCM theory, technical methods, and drug development. It serves as the leading institution for the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine's pilot project on the collaborative clinical management of major and complex diseases using both traditional and Western medicine, specifically for colorectal cancer, and as the Tumor Rehabilitation Base of the Chinese Geriatrics Society. Leveraging the Beijing Municipal Office of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Tumor Prevention and Treatment and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Big Data Innovation Laboratory platform, the department innovates multidisciplinary tumor rehabilitation clinic models and tumor rehabilitation base construction, driving the development of the tumor rehabilitation discipline through Xiyuan Hospital's practical experience.

At this conference, Chinese scholars actively promoted the global dissemination of TCM culture, enhancing the understanding and recognition of TCM among the people of “Belt and Road” countries, while also exploring an effective pathway for the dissemination of TCM in Africa.
