The Education Department was established in 1987, including 10 research and education groups including internal medicines, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics and so on. The department is responsible for training postgraduate students, employee continuing education, building talent pool, further education for foreigners and TCM education for Western medicine doctors. Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences has the tradition of attaching great importance to teaching, education and the inheritance of clinical experience. 

Xiyuan Hospital is the first organization in TCM industry which recruited graduate students, also the first which recruited international students, as well as one of the earliest station for practitioners of Chinese medicine postdoctoral. Xiyuan Hospital is a national demonstration center for clinical teaching and training of TCM, a national base for standardized training of traditional Chinese medicine residents, the TCM Clinical school of Peking University, the clinical school of the Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a teaching base for the international academic education of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, and a base for the "TCM Classes for Doctors Who Practice Western Medicine" of National Health Commission (NHC). It provides the academic education in international acupuncture and traditional medicine. It owns 70 doctoral supervisors and 175 master supervisors from CACMS.
