Established in 2013, the predecessor of the Institute was the Basic Medical Sciences Research Laboratory, which was founded in 1974. The Institute is a comprehensive applied basic research institute that focuses on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes mellitus and complications, and covers a wide range of disciplines such as pharmacology, chemistry and pharmacogenetics of TCM, molecular biology, and systems biology.
