Institute of Basic Medical Sciences
Established in 2013, the predecessor of the Institute was the Basic Medical Sciences Research Laboratory, which was founded in 1974. The Institute is a comprehensive applied basic research institute that focuses on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes mellitus and complications, and covers a wide range of disciplines such as pharmacology, chemistry and pharmacogenetics of TCM, molecular biology, and systems biology. The institute has 2 national laboratories, including the standardized TCM pharmacology laboratory and the state-level joint research center of the Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R.C., as well as 7 provincial laboratories. It has post-doctoral mobile stations, doctoral and master's training centers in TCM and integrated Chinese and Western medicine. The late academician Li Lianda was the founder of the institute, and the chief researcher Liu Jianxun, a Qihuang scholar, is the academic leader. The institute presently has 50 scientific researchers, being a scientific and technological innovation team of CACMS. The institute has made outstanding contributions in animal model of disease and evidence combination, efficacy evaluation of Chinese medicine compound, material basis of Chinese medicine efficacy, R&D of new Chinese medicine and internationalization of Chinese medicine, etc. The institute has won the State Science and Technology Advancement Award with one first-class prize, two second-class prizes at state level, and eight first-class prizes at provincial and ministerial levels.
