On May 28, 2025, His Excellency Chhay Chhatravuth, Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Civil Service, led the Cambodian National Innovation Delegation to visit Xiyuan Hospital. Themed "Deepening China-Cambodia Health Cooperation and Jointly Promoting High-Quality Development of Referral Hospitals," the visit was attended by a 45-member delegation comprising senior officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Health and Ministry of Civil Service, as well as representatives from 30 model hospitals. The delegation engaged in a half-day in-depth exchange at Xiyuan Hospital. Attending the event were Li Kun, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, and senior leaders from Xiyuan Hospital, including Li Qiuyan, President, Miao Qing, Vice President, and Ren Yan, Vice President. Representatives from relevant functional departments, clinical departments, and the Chinese medical team in Cambodia also participated in the event.

Li Kun pointed out that the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Cambodia is continuously deepening, with particularly fruitful cooperation in the field of health and well-being. This event will provide a strong impetus for enhancing exchanges and cooperation between the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and Cambodia in this field. It is hoped that both sides will use traditional medicine as a bond for the cultural integration between the two countries, uphold the spirit of Silk Road, that is, "mutual learning and mutual benefit," and jointly inject stronger momentum into the building of a China-Cambodia health and well-being community.

Li Qiuyan pointed out that Xiyuan Hospital has always shouldered the mission of being the “national team of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).” The touching story of a deaf girl who was able to call out “mom” thanks to the medical team sent to Cambodia by Xiyuan Hospital has been written into a signed article by President Xi Jinping, serving as a vivid testament to the role of traditional Chinese medicine in major-country diplomacy. She expressed her hope that this exchange will serve as an opportunity to jointly explore new pathways for improving the quality and efficiency of medical services and to contribute to global health.

Chhay Chhatravuth stated that the delegation composed of 30 hospital presidents, who are responsible for referrals, is carrying the important mission of enhancing Cambodia’s medical and health system. Xiyuan Hospital, which holds a leading position in TCM and the integration of TCM and Western medicine, is also undertaking the construction of six national-level medical centers. The development experience of Xiyuan Hospital holds significant reference value for the construction of referral hospitals in Cambodia.

During the special topic exchange session, Miao Qing introduced the situation of Xiyuan Hospital and its development model of integrating TCM and Western medicine. He presented in detail the development trajectory of Xiyuan Hospital in inheriting the essence and innovating while maintaining the core values, its distinctive model of closely combining clinical practice with scientific research, and its multidimensional international exchanges and cooperation in medical care, scientific research, and teaching. Representatives from Cambodia engaged in a lively discussion on topics such as the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the prevention and control of infectious diseases through the integration of TCM and Western medicine, and hospital management.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the Intelligent Pharmacy, Acupuncture & Moxibustion Department, Oncology Department, Respiratory Department, and Rheumatology Department of Xiyuan Hospital. They gained an intuitive understanding of the unique integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine system and the progress made in smart hospital construction, and developed a deeper understanding of topics such as the complementary advantages of traditional Chinese and Western medicine and medical quality control.

During his visit to Cambodia, President Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Cambodia should “build a stable and sustainable China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.” This visit to China by the Cambodian Innovation Delegation was organized by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and hosted by the International Cooperation and Exchange Center of the National Health Commission. The visit to Xiyuan Hospital was one of the inspection activities. Xiyuan Hospital will take this event as an opportunity to leverage its role as a window for international exchange in traditional Chinese medicine, aligning with global health trends and the needs of major-country diplomacy, to contribute Xiyuan's expertise to the development of the “Health Silk Road.”
