On April 13, 2026, a delegation from the Brazilian Association of Private Hospitals, led by Executive Directors Antônio Britto and Evelyn Tiburzio, visited Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. The delegation comprised over 20 representatives, including presidents, chief executive officers, and senior executives from several of Brazil’s top private hospitals. The exchange event was attended by Deng Lan, Deputy Director of the Department of American & Oceanian Affairs of The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Lin Zhichang, Third-Level Investigator of the Department of Sister Cities and Cultural Exchange; and Miao Qing, Vice President of Xiyuan Hospital.

The delegation first toured the outpatient areas of Xiyuan Hospital, gaining insights into the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis and treatment processes, the modernized management model of the Chinese herbal pharmacy, and unique non-pharmacological TCM therapeutic techniques. They also experienced the practical application of the TCM concept of "preventive treatment of disease" at the Center for Preventive Treatment of Diseases. During the visit, the delegation members actively interacted with the medical staff and personally practiced the traditional Chinese health exercise, Ba Duan Jin, gaining a more intuitive understanding of the TCM health culture that emphasizes “combining movement and stillness, and nourishing both body and mind.”

During the symposium, Vice President Miao Qing introduced the development history of Xiyuan Hospital since its establishment in 1955, highlighting its significant achievements in medical services, scientific research, education, and international exchange. He specifically reviewed the fruitful cooperation between the hospital and Brazil in the field of TCM. As a designated foreign aid training unit under the Ministry of Commerce, Xiyuan Hospital has trained a total of 195 TCM professionals for Brazil. In September 2025, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Brazilian College of Chinese Medicine. Subsequently, Shao Kuiqing, Deputy Director of the Medical Affairs Department, provided a systematic overview of the hospital's medical services, the development of key specialties, and the distinctive advantages of TCM. The symposium was presided over by Fu Jianhua, Director of the Administrative Office of Xiyuan Hospital.

During the exchange session, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the integrated TCM and Western medicine service system, pathways for TCM talent cultivation, and models for the overseas development of TCM.

As a national base for TCM service export, Xiyuan Hospital remains dedicated to advancing the international dissemination and practical cooperation of TCM. Taking this exchange as an opportunity, Xiyuan Hospital looks forward to collaborating closely with colleagues in the Brazilian medical community to establish tighter partnerships in areas such as international patient referrals, remote medical consultations, professional training, and joint research. Together, they will explore innovative pathways for the international development of TCM, contributing TCM wisdom and strength to enhance the health and well-being of the people of both countries.
